Should Intake Of Bisoprolol Be Stopped Before Knee Replacement Surgery?
I will be having a full knee replacement in the next month or so. I am on Bisoporol betablockers and asprin for an irregular heart beat. Should I stop taking those for a period before surgery bearing in mind their purpose. Is Bisoporol a statin? David

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Bisoprolol is a drug given for hypertension(high blood pressure) and some kind of dysrhythmias.Blood pressure medications are usually continued on the day of surgery and following surgery. Even if you are not supposed to eat or drink on the day of surgery, your surgeon may recommend that you take your blood pressure medicine with a sip of water. But anticoagulants like aspirins are usually stopped before surgery and continued after 24 hours of surgery.Your anesthetist or orthopedician will tell you this before surgery.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
