Should Medical Attention Be Given For Swelling And Inflammation Around An Insect Bite Site?
I was either bit by a spider or mosquito on back side of left hand about 48 hours ago. Site has concave depression. Back of hand is now swelling, is red, swollen and red blotches are beginning to appear on my wrist. I have been scratching around the site and using a CBD lotion to reduce itching. Am now trying heat pack that makes site feel better. Wondering if I should just ride this out or get medical attention. It is Sunday, I m in a rural area. No Urgent Care Centers open around here. Nearest hospital a ways. I m a 64 year old male caucasian. Have comparative anatomy photos I could send

Should Medical Attention Be Given For Swelling And Inflammation Around An Insect Bite Site?
Hello, It is due to local inflammation at the site of insect bite. As a first line management you can take antihistamines like cetirizine for symptomatic relief. You can also apply topical steroids like betamethasone also. Generally, the symptoms will settle in a couple of days. If persists you can consult a physician and get evaluated. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
