Should Oxycodone Be Continued After Suffering An Injury After Having Had Surgeries?

Hi:
My friend's husband had a bad fall from a ladder, in ICU for 2 weeks, 3 surgeries, rehab, etc. and will be coming home tomorrow. He is taking Oxydodone at the dose of 10mg every 3-4 hours, so he's hooked. My friend wanted to stop the pain med as soon as he got home, but advised her against it, that he needs to be weaned off. He has classic addiction symptoms, and when he tries to go without for a couple of hours, has all of the withdrawal symptoms. He needs help, but with his physical condition, cannot go into drug rehab now. He won't be able to use a walker for 3 months. Question: I need advice on how to cut his meds out. By the way, I have 29 years of sobriety, but I'm not equipped to help much here. Oh, sorry, didn't know this would cost me money. I'm retired

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
Of course it is very difficult for him to manage with out the oxycodone, Still he deed to be tapered the dose after his pain become bearable.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms neurotropic injections for 10 consecutive days and then periodically. With this injections he will be cleared of the pain to maximum extent.
Avoid giving him potato, other tubers, tomato, egg, chicken, and sea foods till the pain is controlled. At this moment you can start veing the dose.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
