Should Plavix Medicine Be Stopped Before Surgery?
HELLO, I RECENTLY HAD A STENT PUT IN AND AM ON PLAVIX, I HAVE THREE HERNIATED DISCS IN MY NECK AND THE ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON WANTS TO DO INJECTIONS, BEFORE SURGERY, WOULD YOU RECOMMEND GOING OFF THE PLAVIX FOR THE INJECTIONS? I HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED FOR SURGERY, AND BELIEVE THAT THE INJECTIONS WOULD JUST BE A BANDAID.

Plavix doesn't have single use ..it reduces platelet coagulation in simple words it's a blood thinner and doesn't let blood to clot,
we categorize surgeries in three categories as far as stopping anti platelets are concerned.
(1) In which you actually have to start taking this med and take a 4-8 times dose at the day of surgery for example angioplasty (stenting, of DvT, thrombo embolism, Or Portal vein thrombosis.
(2) In these diseases drug has to be stopped taken before srgery usually about one week ago like toot surgery of repair of Gut or ulcer or bowel.
(3rd) Are those issue in which stopping the dose isn't recommended or a single day dose may be recommended like IM injections,Hair transplant or Nail remobal etc.
Our Suggestion: stopping the dose just for injection won't be required
but before surgery there is a big chance that such drugs would have to be stopped probably a week ago ,
