Should Redness Of Skin Due To A Dog Scratch Be Treated?

Hello, I was playing with a stray dog, he does not act strange but is really friendly. He tried to move but almost tripped on a rock, it scratched me on the back of my hand but no blood came out. It does not hurt or itch but did get a bit red.It is a small scratch, less than a centimeter of skin ripped off. I added hydrogen peroxide topical solution and applied first aid antibiotic ointment on top of that. Will i need to check on a doctor?

Hello,

I can understand your concern for the redness of skin due to a dog scratch. After analyzing your query with best diligence I can get that you have superficial erosions over the skin after the dog bite. As the dog is stray dog so we consider that the dog was not immunized. In such kind of situations you should meet the doctor at the earliest and should receive the immunization for both tetanus and dog bite.
You can apply an antibiotic cream such as mupirocin or gentamycin till you meet a doctor. In between kindly ask your daughter to not to scratch any skin lesion or even try to touch unnecessarily. This is the most important part in your treatment.
All the best.
