Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi i am 31 year old and in my recent health check up they found ASD 7mm. All my life i have been involved in sports, hiking, adventure activities and never had any problem. Seeing my case history and the current condition doctor suggested that i need not get the ASD closed and live with it. Doctor said that if symptoms like breathlessness or fatigue show up i have to undergo corrective closure of the ASD. Should i take a second opinion? I read lot on the internet that its always better to get the ASD closed no matter how bit it is and what condition you are in.

Hi Asd in many , can be asymptomatic if the defect is smaller 5 to 7 mm, depends on either the defect is only asd or any other congenital problems. You are lucky enough in that way Usually detected accidentally, or sometimes symptomatically detected It is better to go for a device closure with good interventional cardiologist if you have the symptoms Surgical correction is later if incase there is device failure, or the cardiac symptoms increase , going for second opinion is also a good idea Take care
