Should The Coumadin Dosage Be Increased Or Decreased?
Yes, my husband s INR is 3.1 and he takes coumidin, two different dosages. One is 10 ml 3 times a week and the other is 7.5 (four times a week. His dr. Told him to stay on the same level, but I think it is a bit high. Should he increase one or decrease one ? Thanks
Hello. Welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns.
Whether to increase or decrease the dosage of coumadin depends on the disease from which he is suffering.
Different diseases have different target INRs. Usually in mechanical valve replacement INRs target should be between 2.5 to 3.5. In most of the other diseases target will be varied from 1.8 to 3.0.
So, ask your doctor what will be the target INR in your case and then your modify dose accordingly.
Thank you. Have a nice day.
