Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should The ER Be Visited For Bruising Around An Injection Site?
I had this injection on Friday about 3pm, around 9pm the injection area was bruised and had a blister on top. Now the blistered has busted and there is a raw patch on top of the huge bruise. I had this done two other times and it didnt do this. However, the nurse had to apply pressure for about 5mins, because it bled more than usual. Should I go to the ER?
From your explanation, it looks like a pierced blood vessel leasing to seepage of blood into the surrounding soft tissue. Excessive bleeding can also be due to some bleeding disorder.
For now, you can do cool compresses over it. If it is painful applying Lidocaine gel can be helpful. However, you can once consult a Physician and get evaluated if the bruise spreads or continue to worsen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
