Should The ER Be Visited For Popping Sound From The Neck After A Muscle Pull?

My 16 year old son pulled a muscle in his neck today while playing golf / swinging a golf club. He said he heard a popping noise kind of like celery snapping. Is this something we should go get checked out at the ER or just wait to see if it heels on its own. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It might be due to some minor muscle pull. As of now he can take bed rest, preferably apply a cervical collar. You can also give muscle relaxants, like Baclofen. If the symptoms persist, or in case of pain or numbness, you can consult a physician and get evaluated.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
