Should The ER Be Visited For Severe Pain Around A Fractured Finger?

I fractured my finger a day ago. It is a spiral, minimally comminuted fracture. It is also not significantly displaced. I was given Tylenol #3 for the pain but it is not helping and the pain seems severe. Should I revisit the emergency room or would my Family doctor be better suited to handle this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can take stronger analgesics like Tramadol or Diclofenac. It’s a minor fracture and surgical correction is not required. No need to go to ER, only pain management is required. You can seek help from your orthopedician in case of persistent pain.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
