Should The Cut On The Knuckle Of The Finger Be Stitched Or Just Bandaged?

I cut my knuckle (it s the pip joint top if the finger) with a glass doing dishes. The dish was clean when it broke and I didn t touch anything else. The cut is about 1/4 in diameter and fairly deep maybe 1/8 possibly a little less. I immediately wrapped it up then wrapped it with staril gauze. It was bleeding too fast to really see anything so i couldn t say if it s to bone but I can still movie my finger. I went to rewrap about 7 hours later and add neosporin removing the gauze cause it to bleed heavily again but the gauze were stuck so it was clotting. I guess my question is should this be stitched? Can it even be stitched? Seems like it would be a sucky place to have a stitch. What can i do if changing the bandage just keeps causing it to bleed?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

Since the cut is superficial there is no need for stitching. I understand that there is cut over blood vessels but it is rightly possible that it will to a great extent in next one week. There is very less possibility of recurrent bleeding as clot will form at the damaged ends of vessel.

I hope this answers you. Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar, Psychiatrist
