Should The Intake Of Misoprostol Medicine Be Repeated If Taken Once?

hii doc.. my query is regarding the mtp kit.me and my wife had an unwanted pregnancy of 6 weeks owing to which my wife was suggested to take mtp kit.she took the mifepristone on the night of 15th march (10pm) followed by 2 tablets of misoprostol orally on the night of 17th (10pm). within a span of half an hour after taking misoprostol she started bleeding followed by abdominal pain and cramps.now its 3 in the afternoon of 18th n her pain and cramps have reduced pretty much.does she require to take the other 2 misoprostol as well or is it fine to leave them since the bleedin has already occured. thanks and regards in advance.!!

hi, welcome to healthcare. As per protocol,it is recommended to take the complete dosage. A little bleeding may not signify complete abortion, in my clinic it is customary to do an ultrasound scan 8-10 days after taking the 1st dose i.e. Mifepristone in order to ensure a complete abortion. Sometimes, rarely, few p-o-c namely products of conception remain in the uterus, resulting in incomplete abortion. Such cases need to be curetted in a minor surgical procedure called D&E.
