Should The Pregnancy Be Continued In View Of Rubella Virus Threat?
doctor,I am preganant now(8 weeks) for second baby. I have taken torch screening test and the results state that igg is (157.6) for rubella(highly postive) and igM is 0.22(negative) for rubella. My first baby was affected by rubella virus and she had got cataract by birth. Is it advisable to continue my pregnancy?
Rubella exposure during pregnancy has about 5% risk of congenital abnormalities. However, your first baby had some congenital abnormality due to rubella exposure. In such case you have to think seriously whether you want to put this baby at the risk of the same infection.
Your Igg is positive but Igm is negative meaning thereby that you are already immune to rubella. So the possibilities of this baby getting affected are minimal. I would advise you to repeat the test after 3 weeks. If there is 4 fold rise in Igg it means you are having an active infection. In that case, you may think of terminating the pregnancy.
I would request you to report your problem to Foetal Medicine Consultant before you take final decision.
I hope this helps you.
