Hi,My three yrs eight months old daughter has been suffering from allergic brochitis since past 5-6 months.Almost every 15 days she suffers from bad cough which gets better only after giving Ambrolite-s 5 ml thrice.Asthalin respules(with or without budecort respules) nibulizer 4-5 times a day and sometimes antibiotics too(if problem is severe). I want to know what could be the possible side effects of these medicines on her. She has stopped gaining weight now inspite of taking a moderate diet . Also, she keeps complaining of pain in her knees and hands.I am worried. pls advice
I can understand the anxiety you are facing while managing a baby with a recurrent respiratory problem. She has what is called a childhood wheezy airway disease, and this illness behaves just like asthma in older children. The medicines you have mentioned are quite safe, but you should not use nebulised Asthalin and Ambrolite S together. They are similar drugs and the effect can add up if both are used together. Budecort is reasonably safe, but you should make the child rinse her mouth and brush her tongue and teeth after using this inhalation. Using antibiotics is a physician's choice, but it does not depend on whether the problem is "severe". It depends on whether the child has "infection".
Using Ambrolite S in excess of the dose recommended by your doctor may cause tremors of the hands and a quickening of the heart beat.
