Skin Irritation On Spots Of Applying Differin. Prescribed Desowen. Should I Apply Lotion On Entire Face?
I used Differin and developed skin irritation on the spots which I applied on. The irritation is red and itchy. The dermatologist I saw prescribed me Desowen and asked me to apply on my whole face, even though the areas which I didn't use the lotion on are fine. Could I seek a second opinion on whether it's the right way to do so? Apply on the whole face? Thanks!
Differin is Adapalene. it is commonly used for all grades of Acne. It can cause Irritation in the form of mild redness, flaking at the start of therapy (first 2-4 weeks). Your dermatologist has given you desowen which is mild class VI steroid to resolve the irritation. Use it on spots if its absolutely necessary/very irritated. Otherwise just stop all Acne medicines for a few days except oral medicines till the irritation subsides and then when you again restart Differin, use it only sparingly over the whole affected area and on alternate days or just for 2 hours daily till your skin gets used to it. Use a mild cleanser like cetaphil. you did nt mention about other creams/gels that you may be using?
