Small Child, Dry Cough, No Fever. Taking Cough Syrup Twice A Day. Suggestions?
HI , My 6 year old son has a continous dry cough since two days , no fever and active but says the cough is really irritating him . have been giving him a syrup containing , dextromethorphan hydrobromide 5mg, bromhexine hydrochloride ip 4 mg , phenylepherine hydrochloride ip 5 mg, menthol ip 2.5 mg,------ two times a day . What should i do ?Thanks.

Your child is having dry cough,it will take few days to settle,continue with medication .as prescribed.
Give plenty of fluids,warm water will be soothing,give lemon tea with honey,
Give him steam inhalation for 5 to 10 minutes.
Give simple and nutritious diet,avoid fried and junk food.
In case symptoms persist get him evaluated again by pediatrician.

Give him Chericoff susp...5ml three times daily for 5 days.
If his nose is blocked give him a nasal decongestant.
Make him gargle thrice daily for 5 days.
