Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Small Child, Large Lump On Face Near Ear. Taken Antibiotics, Swelling Has Not Reduced. Causes And Cure?
my 3 year woke up 2 mornings ago with a large lump on his face (about 1 inch), right in front of his ear. We took him to the hospital the first day and were given antibiotics and were given 3 possible answers to what it could be. My concern is, It is no smaller and he obviously does not feel good. What could this be? How could he have gotten it? How long is it going to be there? What can I do to make it go away?
It would have been better had you mentioned the three possibilities given by the doctor so as to give you a guidance. Without having a look at the child it is very difficult to hazard a guess. However by your description it appears to be a pre-auricular lymph node which may have been enlarged due to a focus of infection in the anterior scalp area.
It is very difficult to say how long will it take to subside without having a look at the lesion. Apart from the antibiotic you can add some anti-inflammatory medicine to help it subside.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Wishing your son an early recovery.
