Small Child, Wheezing. Prescribed Cetrizine. Lung X-ray Clear. Can Sinarest Be Taken With Cetrizine?
Hello doctor, my daughter has mild wheezing ,we had taken her to hospital today ,she was prescribed with cetrizine and her lungs were clear .but she has wheezing could you please advise if sinarest can be given along with cetrizine . my daughter is 21/2 years old and weighs 9.5 kg. please send your advice to YYYY@YYYY
Hi
Sinarest and cetirizine should not be given together as both of them contain same type of drug, antihistamine.
Sinarest has chlorpheneramine maleate which causes more sedation than cetirizine. In addition it has a decongestant for running nose and paracetamol for fever.
By wheeze do you mean noisy breathing? Because if a doctor gets wheeze on examination of the chest, he or she will prescribe a bronchodilator like Salbutamol(Albuterol). If what she has is just an allergic cough, Cetirizine will do.
Hope you find my answer useful.
Your daughter needs a bronchodilator like salbutamol to relieve her wheezing episode. Cetrizine would not be effective to alleviate her breathing problem.
She is only 2.5 years old and children of this age can not take a tablet like sinarest with ease. Besides sinarest will not help your child here.
Also she weighs only 9.5 kg when she should actually weigh around 12-13 kg. She must be assessed for any nutritional deficiency.
