Small, Semi Circular Lesions Around Knee, Looks Like A Scar Tissue. Is This A Fungal Infection?

My dad has two small, non raised, semi-circular lesions around his knee. When they first appeared, they seemed to be a little bit itchy, but now there is no pruritis. The inner area of the circle has a look that looks like scar tissue, though it's not. He does work overseas in South Korea, and it appeared over there. I'm wondering if its a fungi. Because originally I thought it was some sort of dermatitis, and I had him use some cortisone on it, some that I used myself for my eczema. But the thing is that South Korea is humid, not dry, so it may be fungi?

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
As you describe it appears to be the fungal infection, might have healed partially by the resistance.
I advise you to consult a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms grisofulvin500mg B.D, and betamethasone, gentamycin and miconazole combination oint ment.
wishing him a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.

Dermatologist Dr. Amritha Pai's  Response
good evening to you.... semicircular lesions on the knee could be due a variety of reasons...yes it could be a fungal infection or nummular dermatitis...however if it is only on one knee then it would be more likely a fungal infection....you are saying it was itching initially,it must have decreased due to the effect of steroids....when you apply steroids for a fungal infection ,it igives rise to a condition called steroid incognito
....in this condition the patient get temporary improvement only to flareup later...i would advise you to give him a course of antifungal like flucanazole 150 mg for 15 days..and an antifungal cream for two weeks....
