Smoking Has Led To Headaches, Cough And Radiant Pain In Neck, Been Stressed And Extremely Anxious. Why Is It Getting More Painful?

Hi, I am a 30 year old male who has just begun to experience cough headaches.

Yesterday night I was having a cigarette when I coughed (not unusual) and got a sudden sharp headache in the back of my head with radiant pain in the back of my neck. It lasted perhaps a minute, then reduced to a dull ache for perhaps 15 minutes, then it disappeared.

The pain is only intense for a minute when I cough and just after. The condition has continued today, though it was lessened in the afternoon and has only become slightly more painful again late into the night.

I am not sure if it's related, but I have felt generally fatigued all day, and had a few various aches and pains (nothing major) throughout the day. My wife also complained that I snored louder than usual last night.

I should mention that I'm under an extreme amount of stress (my mother died recently and we held her funeral yesterday afternoon, my father is seriously handicapped from a stroke and has nowhere to live, and my wife and I have been unable to conceive a baby after years of trying, which has damaged my marriage. I also have serious money concerns). I was also very hung over yesterday, as I drank excessively the night before.

My worry is that I have something seriously wrong with me (I suffer from slight health anxiety). Are you familiar with my condition? Please do let me know what you think is wrong with me and whether I should see a dr. If so, should I wait a few days to see if it goes away without intervention?

Thanks for your time,

Theo

Hi Theo,

First, condolences for your mother's death and sorry to hear that your father is handicapped. These are parts of our life, that's why you need strength and determination to get through this situation.

As you are saying, smoking is causing cough and headaches to you. In other words, your body is giving signals that cannot tolerate smoking.

In addition, drinking excessively won't resolve your problems. On contrary, it will make your problems worst. You should stop for a while and think over yourself: How you can go over this? be close to your wife and father and family.

You are looking for a baby, but, drinking and smoking will reduce your chances. So, enjoy life together with your family and once you are in peace, your baby will come.

At last, the only thing wrong to you is "hopeless". This is not true, if you cannot get through alone, can consult psychologist.

All the best to you and family!
