Social Phobia. Any Medication?

Hi doctor, last week I herd on the radio a person saying that he had been relieved of the social phobia by a medication that the name finished by (prom). It seemed that this was a recent medication and that he had previously tried others with negative result. I am sorry of not giving you more, I am 69 y.o and and very anxious of finding something that would aleviate my problem. Thank you.

Hi,

I am sorry for your problem. Rather than medications certain behavioral and relaxation therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) under the guidance of qualified doctor would work very fine for people suffering from social phobias. There are newer drugs as well but the problem with medications is that the problem might recur once the medications are stopped. Hope it helps.

Take Care!
