Soft Painful Lump On The Scalp. Frequent Recurrence. Reason?
hi, on the top of my head/scalp on the corner I have a soft lump , I think it might be soft because it is filled with fluid?? its quite painful to touch. it goes away then returns a year later, maybe half a year later. last year it stayed for over a week and I nearly went to the doctors. what do you think it is? it always returns on the same spot too
Hi and thanks for the query, It would be interesting to know the exact cause and content of this lump. first, is it accompanied by any fever when you experience it or not? What happened immediately before you experienced it the first time? Any notion of trauma? A clinical evaluation might be required to exclude any lymph nodes of localizing signs. If absent, a needle aspiration could be done by your physician to get the contents. Cytolgical and histologic analysis could be done to determine the cause. If it is bacterial, appropriate antibiotics can be prescribed as shall be guided by the culture and sensitivity analysis. A cyst or tumour depending on specific characteristics might entail local excision or specific treatments. I suggest you consult your primary care physician for a proper consideration and specific management. Knowing the exact cause is important in orienting the treatment. Thanks and best regards, Luchuo, MD.
