Sprained Ankle. Hard Lump On Top Of Foot. Painful. Treatment?

I sprained my ankle about 8 weeks ago. I had it xrayed after a month because to healing stalled. The er doc found no breaks. It has not gotten any better. There is a hard lump on the top of my foot just before it meets the leg/ankle . The most painful movement is stepping down stairs. It also hurts to have the weight of covers weighing down on it in bed. It cracks a lot. It is a constant 2-3 on the pain scale unless i move it wrong (like walking down stairs and pushing off of the foot while it is "behind" me for lack of better description. That makes me gasp at the intensity of the pain, but is over as quickly as it starts.

Hello,
There might not have been any bone injury , but a soft tissue or ligament injury could have occurred.
Since its been 8 weeks and you've been mobile and doing your daily activities all this while, the injury to ligaments may not be completely healed.
