Staph Infection From A Cyst Oozing With Yellow Liquid. Treated With Antibiotic And Keflex. Allergic To Adhesive Band Aid

I have a staph infection from a cyst I tried to excise above my right eyebrow area, (between the hair line of scalp and brow, actually, the entire area of half of right forehead is oozing clear pus...went to nurse prac. yesterday & she injected the wound site with cortisone to help inflammation. Gave me 500mg of oral Keflex 4 times a day, for 10 days, started with 2 last night, and an antibiotic ointment which I now think I m allergic to. The wound is weeping a clearish yellow tinted liquid; don t know if that s edema from terrible swelling or lymph from infection. I m allergic to adhesive bandaids so I cannot cover the wound. The swelling is terrible and I look awful. Is it okay to put ice on an open staph infection? I guess it s draining. Eye area on right side as well as now left lower eyebrow outer area near lid is itching and site area of wound is ever so swollen. So, is it okay to put ice on an open wound that may be staph. It was cultured yesterday, she thought it was staph. Is it okay for me to go to work? I m a school teacher and I have Open House next Thursday, and I have a ton of stuff to do; is it okay to be around people with an open wound such as the one I described? Thank you for your advice. Sincerely, Bobbie

Hello

In my opinion, when there is any bacterial or coccal infection, use of steroids locally or systemically should be avoided. You should use some good anti-septic sterile dressing with a bandage over it as you are allergic to adhesive bandaids. You should not use ice pack for this wound and do not try to keep it open.

For the eye, you can use some eye drops containing anti-biotics. Orally also you should take anti-biotics and anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 1 week.

The condition is curable and you should get well soon.

Regards
