Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Thanks for your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Valparin contains the active ingredient
Valproic Acid and it's usual side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, weight gain and acne.
Your child is having common side effects of valproic acid. Many anti convulsants are potential to cause fatigue and
nervousness.
Even Valproate levels within the normal range are capable of causing hyperammonemia and ensuing
encephalopathy.
Valproic acid may also cause acute hematological toxicities, especially in children, including rare reports of
myelodysplasia and acute leukemia-like syndrome.
Thus i advise you to have a periodical review with your treating Neurophysician and follow his advice.
I prefer you to consult the
neurologist to switch over to other anti convulsants after some years.
This will help in decreasing the toxicity to particular drug.
Hope this helps.
Please reply for further queries.
regards,
Dr.Manjeth kumar.
