Started Forming Patch On Scalp. Prescribed Minitop Foam 2% And Keraglo. How To Detect Androgenetic Alopecia?
i have started forming a patch on my scalp . Its very small to detect though unless combed in the wrong manner. I rushed to a dermatologist . He has prescribed me Minitop Foam 2% to apply and some keraglo medicines to eat. Now, i see in my search that its prescribed for androgenetic alopecia . Can you explain how to detect if its alopecia? And, what is androgenetic alopecia? I am 24yrs, Female. Will be glad to see a reply soon.
Hi,
In females androgenetic alopecia is usually characterised by broadening of hair parting and eventually leads to loss of hair from centre as well as crown of scalp. There is another less common pattern where you lose hair from frontal or temporal areas. The treatment prescribed is minoxidil 2 percent solution and sometimes anti androgens like cyproterone, spirinolactone etc.
If you are having a single round or oval shiny patch of hair loss of acute onset, it could also be alopecia areata. Treatment requires topical or injectable steroids.
Both the patterns of hair loss are easily distinguishable on clinical examination.
Androgenic alopecia in females is characterised by widened hair parting due to diffuse hair loss which progresses slowly to hair loss from the contre of the scalp. family history is generally present.it is rarely seen at this age
if it is small round patch it could be alopecia areata which is a self limiting autoimmune condition that can be treated by local steroid application and intralesional kenacort inj.
