Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am a 48 year old female with alots of differernt health problems, but I wanted to ask you - the last 3 days I have had the bottom of my stomach cramping and I had red blood in the toilet for the last 2 nites, last nite it looked like it had turn to a gel - but the night before it was bloody water in the toilet, but stool was normal looking Thank you Angie
If the blood in stool is bright red and on the surface of it, hemorrhoids are the most probable reason. You may also find a lump around the anus with this condition. However abdominal pain is not characteristic for hemorrhoids. So more probable is gastrointestinal infection. Every diarrhea which lasts longer than 48 hours or contains blood should be definitely verified by stool tests. Apart from an infection, other diseases like inflammatory bowels disease or even colon cancer are possible.
I suggest you to do not wait anymore. Please visit your doctor, have stool tests, abdominal ultrasound, blood work and get scheduled for colonoscopy.
Hope this will help. Regards.
