Sudden Onset Of Arrhythmia, High BP And Flushing. Feel Normal After Taking Hydralazine. Is This Serious?

Yes I had an episode while working as a nurse where i started having pounding heartbeat with arrythymias noted and flushing and my b/p was 210/110 , I was started on Hydralazine 2 weeks ago 50 mg bid . The episode lasted approx. 15 min. I had a very shaky or nervous feeling inside. I came home and rested for a couple of hours and now I feel ok just a little tired. Could it be the medication. Hi,
As a nurse you must be aware that hydralazine is an antihypertensive & you are taking it for presumably same indication. Hydralazine to the best of my knowledge is not given solo because because it elicits a reflex sympathetic stimulation of the heart. This increase heart rate may cause symptom presentation like you had, angina or myocardial infarction. Hence, hydralazine is usually prescribed in combination with a beta-blocker (e.g., propranolol) and a diuretic & is usually used as antihypretensive in pregnancy. So, please get in touch with your doctor & get your prescription modified. Best wishes
