Sudden Rash On Right Arm, Itchy Between Elbow And Shoulder Base. Redness And Heat Not Going. Shingles ?

Hi I got a very sudden rash, itchy as hell. It is on my right arm starting 1/2 way between my elbow and ending almost at the base of my shoulder. It started as little tiny bumps and was very itchy. I looked for a bite and could not see one so I proceeded to put on Cortisone and the itching. In about 1/2 hr the redness stared to go away and is much smaller now. When I touch the redness the heat is much greater than my other arm. My eyes were feeling like I had little bits of sand in them, which I usually get if I am in contact with a cat or when I have dry eyes. I used my eye drops to no avail, so I proceeded to take one benydryl. In about an hour the eyes felt a little better, sandy feeling gone, but very tight feeling and red and teary. Help. I hope my rash is not shingles.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..
The symptoms can be correlated to mild viral illness or an acute allergic reaction..
You can use some anti allergic medication like ceterizine..
Cortisone is to be used whenever there is a severe rash which is not coming down with other medications...
Regarding the eyes you can use lubricating eye drops for relief and also anti allergic eye drops like olopatadine to reduce the inflammation and if severe low strength steroid but with doctor's consultation..
If you have any associated fever or weakness get a complete blood picture done including platelet count to rule out serious viral illness like dengue...
Hope this information helps.. Take care..
