Suffered A Concussion, Fluid Draining From Both Ears. MRI Showed Intracranial Abnormalities And Mucosal Thickening. Suggestion?
Hi! My daughter suffered a concussion 3 weeks ago. She has had clear fluid draining from both ears, so the Dr had her have an MRI . The results were....There are no intracranial abnormalities. There is mucosal thickening left side of sphenoid sinus and right maxillary sinus . Mastoid air cells are clear. Can you explain what this means? Thank you!
Hello, After concussion injury if your doctor has examined her and asked for MRI in case of clear water draining from both the ears then he must be suspecting the CSF, (Cerebrospinal fluid) the fluid surrounding the brain, leakage. Mri Cisternography is done for this condition or CT scan is done. Your MRI findings says mucosal thickening that could be an Incidental finding ie not related to the disease or that can be the clear fluid collecting you can discuss with your radiologist doctor who has reported that on T1 an T2 scans and on fat suppression images how it looks like and is there and connection of it with the brain . You can also get done the test of clear fluid that is draining out by collecting it in a sterile container to be taken from laboratory , and get done Glucose and Protein measurement of the fluid , that can tell it is CSF or not. Keep head end of bed elevated so that the brain pressure is decreased and the leak if there will decrease.
