Suffered Gestational Diabetes, Low Blood Sugar For The Child With Low Sodium. What Could Be The Cause ?
I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and kept it under control. My baby has low blood sugar and is being treated for it. However he had a low sodium level and is being given sodium with lipids along with the treatment for low blood sugar and lasiks to help his sodium levels and to help with the fluids that he has been retaining. His birth weight was 8.2 & is now 8.6. What would cause the low sodium and how long should it take to correct it?
Gestational diabetes is such a condition in which mother experiences high blood sugar as a response fetal insulin levels goes high. So fetus or baby wil experience low blood sugars while in uterus. After delivery the Sustained hyperglycemia would have caused altered insulin response perhaps an increased response to Tim insulins causing low blood sugars. Serum c peptide assay will reveal lot of things whether insulin response is normal or not. Low sodium levels are associated with adrenal hyperplasia so adrenal Harmone assay will reveal the cause.
Thanks
