When faced with the situation of a chronic cough in a child, it is wise to do extensive investigations to rule out lung diseases such as tuberculosis and atypical pneumonia which can be troubling when treating with usual antibiotics such as augmentin. From your description, you daughter is clearly suffering from an infection order than the usual typical respiratory tract infections such as viral, typical bacteria etc. It will require X-ray, blood tests and full lung exams by a physician or more specifically a pediatrician in order to determine the actual course. If atypical pneumonia or pulmonary TB then indicated treatment need to be initiated as soon as possible. Common microbes that cause long infection usually do not produce persistent cough. If you have not yet seen a pediatrician, it will be best to see one soon.
