Suffering From Diarrhea, Feeling Of Throwing Up And Very Weak But Not Hungry
My wife is very weak and had the runs. was fine yesterday and woke up today with a feeling of throwing up,diarrea three times and is drinking water and is not hungry, but very weak and is usually very active 71 yrs old and temperature is 98.6. Also a slight cough. We have cipro at home
Hi, The most likely cause of her illness is viral gastroenteritis. This will resolve spontaneously but in the meantime you should treat the symptoms. I suggest you continue with as much water as she can keep it down. Take oral rehydration salts as well. These are available over the counter. Eat a plain diet. Rest as much as possible. Anti-diarrhoreal medicines may help. I hope she feels better soon. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB. FRCA
