Suffering From Down Syndrome But Thyroid Blood Test Came Back Normal
My 7 year old with down syndrome is tired at school My child is 7 years old and has down syndrome, she sleeps 12 hours a night, but is tired everyday at school, but fine at home at the weekend. Her thyroid blood test came back normal, could it just be the work is too much for her at school or could it be an underlying problem?
You could be correct about too much work at school. Actually, it's not the work per se, but the low muscle tone (Hypotonia) that your child could be having, that's causing the tiredness. Hypotonia is a feature of Down's Syndrome. Your child will have to learn to adapt to this.
Please also check with the teaching staff of the school about the work/play schedule. The schedule can always be customized as per your child's comfort levels. After all, your child is going to school to learn, and not to get tired and wary of the schooling.
You can also take help of healthcare professionals who work with kids with Down's Syndrome. Usually Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists have good programs going on for children with Down's syndrome. I'm afraid I can't help with any specific contacts.
