Suffering From Migraine For 10 Years. Taking Vasograin. Any Side Effects?
Hi Doctor,
I am suffering from Migraine since 10 years.
Initially i was using Novalgin, etc, but my doctor suggested to take Migranil tables after which it was fine.
I used to get 3-4 attacks a month.
Later, as migranil was not available in some of the medical or pharmacy shops they suggested me to take vasograin as an alternatively.
And i found that vasograin was more powerful enough to solve my migraine attack less than 30 minutes after taking 1 tablet.
But, recently I read in internet saying Vasograin comes with additional chemicals or products which may not be required. And they are saying vasograin has many side effects.
Can you please suggest what shall i do?

Vasograin is brand name of ergotamine drug. This is a ergot derivative and it is very useful in episodic control of headache. It is not advisable to take this drug for long periods of time as it has potential to cause tolerance and dependence. It can cause serious BP crisis. Self medication is also not advised. So better to avoid this drug.
I would advise you to consult your doctor again and to prescribe some non-addicing drug for headache. Propranolol is very good drug for prophylaxis of migraine type of headache.
