Suffering From Seizures. Taking Levipril, Asked To Take Valprol-CR 300. Correct Dosage?
my daughter 12 years old had a seizure on 25 sep.2012,from 8 Oct.2012,she started having levipril 500 twice in a day (morning and evening) ,but after 15 days she had second seizure while playing, now doctor has suggested to change medicine and start valprol 300 mg twice a day,but I am not satisfied with the power of valprol-CR 300 ,my question is this that how much power should be given to her per day ?
Hello
Valproate-CR contains valproate sodium in a controlled release form. You have not mentioned the weight of your child. Usual dose of valproate is 20 mg/kg/day which can be increased upto 40 mg/kg/day depending on whether seizure is controlled or not.
In children above 20 kgs a tablet of 200 mg should be given two times a day. Your child is getting 300 mg twice a day that is also appropriate for her.
Children on long term use of valproate need to be investigated for liver function test to monitor the side effects of valproate.
