Suffering With Tonsillitis, Mouth Fills With Saliva, Painful Swallowing, Taking Pencillin, Ibupropen. What Else Can Be Done?
Hey im looking after my girlfriend who has tonsilitis and she has been given penicilin which she started taking around 2pm today and it is now 11pm and it has gotten worse. Ive told her to take ibuprophen to help with her throat which is agonising to swallow and it is not helping as much as id like. Her mouth is filling with saliva which she doesnt know if she should spit out or swallow (which is extremely painful) how long should the penicilin take to kick in and is there anything else i can do to help her she is really in a lot of stress and discomfort
Hi,
Welcome to HCM
Treatment started today it will take some time to have effect, if she can not swallow a tab of analgesic it can be given in the form of syrup, along with this chlorhexidine gargles and hot saline gargles can give some relief.
Reassure her she will improve in few days, take medicines as advised to you.
If pain is intolerable a intramuscular analgesic may be given in consultation with your treating physician.
Good luck to her
Take care.
