Hello, my name is Liz. I am an expat living in China. I have had chronic colds over the past few months. Recently, I had a cold and now it feels like my ears are very congested. Keeping in mind the different standards of medicines and drugs, what can you suggest to help decongest my ears?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain it seems that you have Blocked Eustachian Tubes and it is due to cold and phlegm.. As the Eustachian tube is present between the back of nose and middle ear chronic cold can lead to fluid accumulation in the Eustachian tubes and they get clogged and gives a feeling of congestion or blockage in ears.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and otoscopic examination of ears can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly. In case if there are blocked eustachian tubes you will be advised to take oral decongestant like Pseudoephadrine and nasal decongestants containing Xylometazoline.. Anti allergics like Allegra can be taken.. In case if it is a chronic case then Pressure equalization Tubes can be placed in ears.. You should take some precautions like avoid Popping the ears to prevent perforation in eardrum. You should also avoid picking the ears..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
