I recently had my hair done by a hair stylist. My scalp started burning and subsided after the rinse. Then my hair was colored. My scalp started to itch right after the color was rinsed out. Then the itching went away. Two days ago, my scalp started itching again and the back of my hear at the hair line; my scalp started itching and swelling. I believe I am having a reaction to the shampoo, conditioner, and the color. Before my hair was done, I did not have any of the symptoms. Can you tell me what I can do for these symptoms?
Hi. As per your case history you are having allergic dermatitis due to hair color or some other cosmetic products. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid using cosmetic products on scalp as it may worsen the condition and cause similar symptoms in future. 2. Don't apply hair oil for at least 2 weeks. 3. Apply a mild topical steroid lotion like beclomethasone lotion twice daily on affected part. 4. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 5. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, oral steroids like prednisone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
