Suggest Alternative Medication When Doxycycline Is Causing Worsening Heart Symptoms
Hi. I am on Doxycycline for 7 days due to a severe infection. 200mg the first day and 100mg each day after. I have complex medical conditions and multmorbidities, but the risk of doing nothing was great. I can t tolerate many other antibiotics or these ones pose a greater risk for me. Doxycycline seems to be worsening my PVC s and PAC s and supraventricular ectopics. I also have inverted t-waves on my EKG s.
I'm afraid that an alternative medication cannot be suggested because you haven't mentioned the type of infection and perhaps the pathogen.
Doxycycline can be used against numerous pathogens, so it's not easy to just say that taking clarithromycin for example, which is a commonly used alternative, will do the job. Is this for a respiratory tract infection, for a skin infection, for prostatitis? Are taking any other medications? Are your kidneys functional (no elevated creatinine levels) etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
