Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on klonopin 2mg b.i.d for a few years now. My dx is PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety and to top it off bi-polar. I live in TX. The Doctor told me today that he will no longer prescribe it. Said that it is the state stopping it. What am I supposed to do?
Klonopin is Clonazepam and the drug belongs to benzodiazepines drugs. The drug is commonly used in 0.5-1 mg doses for relief of symptoms of anxiety. The drug usually cause relief in symptoms but this is not the definitive treatment for PTSD or panic disorder. You are taking 2 mg twice a day and as per my opinion this is very high dose. It can resul in dependence and tolerance. As the drug is controlled substance so this is the reason your doctor is adamant to prescribe it. Discuss with your doctor and ask for proper treatment of PTSD symptoms. SSRIs are commonly used drugs for PTSD and panic and are safe drugs. These drugs will help in relieving your symptoms. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take care
