Suggest Alternative To Rods And Screws Placed To Treat Scoliosis
are there any new treatments for scholiosis? My wife has l3,4 and 5 involved and has been through neurologists and orthopaedics and all say that pain managementwould be the answer. I wonder it there are new developments that would be less invasive than the rods and screws or other standard procedures. she is 79 yrs old, not obese.
Dear patient If there is scoliosis and needs to be corrected current line of treatment is fixation with pedicle screws and rods. They can be inserted with minimal incisions in a technique called minimal invasive spine surgery (MISS). This technique uses minimal incisions and with navigation available for pedicle screws surgery takes much less time and less blood loss. Please discuss this options with your spine surgeon.
