Suggest Alternatives To Plendil While On Atenolol, Lisinopril, And Bezide

Hi I am hypertensive. I was diagnosed with uncontrolled hypertension in November 2013. Since then I am the following: Plendil 10mg one tab in the morning Atenonol 50mg twice a day Lisinopril 10mg once a day in the evening Bezide 2.5mg once a day. Since August 2021 I have noticed my pressure in the evening is around 145/95 or higher. I was told to take Amlodipine 10mg during the day. I have noticed today on the internet the USA and UK have stopped using Plendil because because of its effects on the brain and heart as a result of long-term use. Plendil is the only med the reduces my blood pressure since it is extended time release. Could you suggest what tablets I should take?

Hello,

The very first thing I'd suggest is to measure your blood pressure daily, and keep the recordings. Next, I want to clarify that Plendil 10 mg is the brand name for Felodipine (a calcium-blocker medication) used to treat high blood pressure. Amlodipine 10 mg is also a calcium blocker medication used to treat blood pressure. As you may see, they are from the same group and act the same way, so you need to take either of them, but not both of them.

So, I highly recommend not to listen to other people or patients, but to schedule an appointment with your caring cardiologist, and get re-evaluated so they will decide the best treatment strategy for you according to your actual health status. Meanwhile, do not forget to keep recordings of your blood pressure levels daily, and show them to your caring cardiologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
