Suggest An Alternate Syrup To Niftrans

My son age 2years has been operated for VUR(reflux Grade IV as per MCU) in the right ureter.He is under Septrans (prophylactic) till September 2011, again he suffered from fever due to UTI and doctor prescribed 3ml niftrans(syrup strength 25mg/5ml) as prophylactic. Sometimes he used to vomit after consuming Niftrans.Is it the effect of Niftrans.Please advise other alternative of Niftrans in syrup form as tablet of such low strength is not available.

Hi...your pediatrician is very much right in suggesting this syrup. This is Nitrofurantoiin and the answer to your question is yes - Nitrofurantoin can cause vomiting.

If you want me to suggest an alternate medicine to Nitrofurantoin, I need to see the urine culture and sensitivity of the kid. I will be glad to suggest you an alternative medicine after seeing the report if you can upload it here.
