Suggest Correction On A Behavioral Pattern

I have a 3 yrs old who has been touching herself since about 8-9 months old. I've spoken to her doctors and they tell me its normal but now it's gotten more frequently and she will get out of her bed and lay on the floor and rub herself at nap time and night time...my husband and I have tried to explain to her what is appropriate and not appropriate but nothing is getting through we're not sure what the next step to do is...

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for asking.
I can understand your concerns.
This is a self calming behaviour which she is doing to soothe herself. And it seems that now she needs it for sleep induction.
I would suggest you try to introduce a different sleep induction method for her like telling s story. Initially continue to tell her a story while she is rubbing her self. Then gradually start telling her a story while she is in the bed. As she will start associating story with sleep induction she will not need to rub herself.
I hope I have helped you
Thank you
