I came down with a double inner ear infection during a routine airplane flight on December 23rd. I have been through having tubes placed in each of my ears, four rounds of antibiotics, three rounds of steroids and I still wake up each morning probably 75% deaf. Currently I am using OTIC drops that are supposedly a combination antibiotic and steroid every twelve hours but my quality of life continues to decline. I have pressure in my head, feel dizzy, and have a hard time concentrating. I had a CT scan last Friday and the results showed fluid in my mastoids but the ENT says that there is no additional therapy that they can prescribe, any thoughts?
Hi, Inflammation of the mastoid air cells causes fluid accumulation and pain, fever, ear discharge if there is a perforation in ear drum. Fullness of ear even after ventilation tube placement indicates misplacement of tube or occlusion of tube or improper tube. The Dr treats you well in addition to increase the middle ear ventilation yopu may require nasal/nasopharyngeal evaluation to increase the ventilation through the Eustachian tube by improving it's patency. If everything all right we may plan for mastoid disease clearance surgery. take care.
