Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic A simple resection or toe nail avulsion won t help because as the nail regrows it would again cause the same problem. I usually treat my patients of ingrown toe nail firstly with an oral antibiotic for up to a week, to resolve any infection which is then followed by Nail avulsion with partial phenolic Matriectomy , which is the best procedure in my view. In this procedure, Nail Matrix on the side of ingrown toe nail, should be cauterized with phenol after nail avulsion; a MUST to prevent the recurrence of ingrowing toe nail on that side, while allowing the rest of the nail plate to regrow normally. I would advice that you seek an appointment with a dermatologist in your region. Your dermatologist might ask you to take an oral antibiotic for a week if there is superimposed infection, pus and swelling. This would be followed by Nail avulsion and partial Nail Matriectomy on the ingrown side. regards
