Hello Sir,
In the active stage of
typhoid the body needs more calories even though appetite may be poor. Absolutely no fiber of any sort should be consumed during this period. A high calorie, high protein diet is needed in the range of 3000 calories per day. No spicy food at all.
Include
glucose, honey, cane, and simple carbohydrates that set well on the stomach. High protein foods such as dairy, yogurt, curd, lean chicken with no skin (white meat), eggs, and keep fat intake low.
Fluids are very important, lime juice, coconut water, sugar cane juices, and fruit juice will provide carbohydrates and fluids. Water needs to be safe, boil if necessary.
Encourage small frequent intakes of nutrients. A review of literature shows a higher need for vitamins/nutrients so, if a chewable
multivitamin can be tolerated, it may be wise to encourage the extra supplementation.
Sample Menu
am: orange or pear juice
mid-am: milk,yogurt,protein, raita
Lunch: sweet potato, no skin or ghee; dahi, mashed beets
mid-pm: Coconut Water, Apple Juice
Supper: Roasted chicken breast cut in small pieces or low-fat kebab if feeling well enough; porridge; Soup
Snack: Soulfi or hot skimmed milk with honey
Vegetable are encouraged, but fiber discouraged. So, choose easily digested vegetables such as potatoes with no skin, cucumbers, tomatoes (no skin), mashed cooked carrots or well-cooked soft carrots, etc.
Superfruits without skin or seeds should be consumed. High calorie, low fat desserts should be encouraged to increase calories.
