Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
So sorry for your predicament and worries. Please let me see if I can offer some suggestions to help: 1. Follow a high calorie, high lean protein diet. A high protein diet would be considered to be 20% of caloric intake; 2. Eat small frequent meals to help contain
nausea and increase calories (kcals); 3. Replace fluids and electrolytes/calories, drink coconut water, lime juice,
glucose water, and fruit juices; 4. Avoid completely spicy, fatty, and fried foods; 5. Anything that might overload the
liver should be avoided such as fermented foods, alcohol, semi-cooked pulses, and raw vegetables. For now, avoid fiber as it damages the intestine likely with
typhoid and it needs time to heal so stay away from insoluble fibers such as seeds, skins of fruit/veggies. Some water soluble, such as oatmeal, may be better tolerated; 6. Eat foods high in
vitamins A, B, and C. B and C can be supplemented, do not supplement with
vitamin A as it is stored in the body and may cause problems down the road. Squash, sweet potatoes, and carrots (all cooked, no skin) are great for recovery.
Summary: A diet for typhoid is light and easy to digest. Such people are given a high calorie, high protein diet essential for successful and full recovery.Sufficient fluids (1 cc per kcal consumed minimum) are necessary. Use egg and dairy for sources of protein (about 1.2 grams protein per kg body weight) but no meat at this time. Adequate vitamin A, B complex and C are crucial for healing. Monitor for
jaundice and seek treatment if signs of such are noted. Keep in mind that both commonly occur at the same time. Until you test negative, do not cook for others and practice good hygiene.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
