Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am female 22 years old Married 3 months before. My weight is 43 kgs. I am looking too slim. I am planning for a baby after 5-6 months. In these 5-6 months i would like to increase my body weight with good protein as a preparation for my pregancy. can you suggest any type good supplement which can drink with milk on daily basis to increase my body weight.
It will be better if you prepare your own supplement at home from natural foods which are the best sources of nutrients. Add some skimmed milk powder for more proteins and dry fruit powder for extra energy and vitamins to whole milk or full cream milk. Soak 5 almonds and 5-6 cashews in milk overnight in a refrigerator to prevent spoiling. Grind them finely in a mixie to a paste and add full cream milk along with it. You can add 2-3 teaspoons of skimmed milk powder for additional energy and proteins. This will be a perfect milkshake with added energy, proteins and vitamins from natural sources. It is best to include natural foods when you have an option.
If you are a non-vegetarian, you can include good quality proteins from meat, fish and poultry besides milk and milk products. Make sure you eat enough carbohydrate rich foods to spare proteins. Include rice, potatoes and bananas for more carbohydrates and have small frequent meals with 2-3 snacks in between meals. Have enough iron rich foods so that you are not anaemic during pregnancy. Non veg especially liver is a good source of iron, besides eggyolk. Green leafy vegetables should be included in the diet for iron and folic acid needs. Have a good nutritious diet before during and after pregnancy for a favourable outcome and stay happy and positive.
